The local school districts are gearing up for Preschool Registration. My advice having worked in two districts, GO THE FIRST DAY WITH ALL DOCUMENTS NEEDED! May not guarantee you a space, but it makes your chances better!
Richmond Public Schools:
Preschool registration(Will begin March 18th) also will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
at all elementary schools except Fairfield Court and George Mason.
Eligible children must be four years old by September 30, 2010.
Preschool registration will continue every Thursday until
June 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following schools: Bellemeade,
Bellevue, Blackwell, Broad Rock, Carver, Clark Springs, Fisher, Fox,
Miles Jones, Martin Luther King (Round Bldg. A), Munford, Overby-
Sheppard and Ruffin Road.
Parents must bring proof of residency at the time of
registration. Parents must also bring their child’s birth certificate,
Social Security card, a physical examination completed within the last
12 months, and an up-to-date immunization record.
Parents who wish to register their children for Head Start also
must bring proof of income, health insurance cards and a dental
exam.
Registration for the Three Year Old Program will be in May at East End Initiative, Parent Resource Center and Southside Plaza.
Henrico County Public Schools
Applications will be accepted by appointment beginning February 1, 2010. (oohhh...already started!)
Certified Birth Certificate
Proof of family income (W-2, Tax Form, 2 most recent paycheck stubs, TANF verification, or letter from employer indicating period of employment and salary)
Proof of Residence and Identification: Three Forms are Required
House contract, Mortgage or Lease Agreement (If you do not have a lease or mortgage in your name, please call 343-6555 for additional requirements)
Utility Bill dated within the last 60 days, AND
Photo I.D. (military I.D., Driver’s License, DMV ID or other photo ID)
Social Security Card (A social security number is required within 90 days of enrollment. If your child is ineligible for a social security number, or if you do not wish to provide your child’s social security number, the Superintendent or his designee will waive this requirement, upon written request.)
Health Insurance Cards
Current Immunization Records
Completed Physical Examination Form* (dated within the last year)
Completed Dental Examination Form* (dated within the last 6 months)
Court Ordered Custody Papers if applicable

Chesterfield County Public Schools
Registration event in April. No exact date given.
Prekindergarten programs are available in 12 Chesterfield schools. Parents who live in these elementary school zones should go with their child to the school to apply for prekindergarten: Bellwood, Bensley, Beulah, Chalkley, Davis, Ettrick, Falling Creek, Harrowgate, Hopkins, Marguerite Christian, Providence or Reams elementary school.

• proof of county residency by providing one of these documents:
º lease for at least one year or deed of a residence or property located in Chesterfield County
º contract or lease free of contingencies to occupy a Chesterfield residence within two months of the date of enrollment
º resident manager’s letter on company letterhead stating that residence is a corporate residence located in Chesterfield
º weekly receipts for temporary residence in a hotel or motel for up to 60 days (will require renewal or evidence of more permanent residency within 60 days of enrollment)
• proof of income (to apply for Head Start)
• child’s Social Security number (requested)
